Meet Your Title IX Coordinators
The Title IX Coordinator is the University of New Mexico’s designated Title IX compliance authority. The Title IX Coordinator focuses on systemic policy, process, and prevention topics including assessing campus climate and current program effectiveness; collaboration and cooperation with campus and community partners; and ensuring other members of the Title IX Team have the appropriate knowledge, skills, training, and resources necessary to successfully fulfill their responsibilities.
Institutions must ensure that the designated Title IX Coordinator is:
- Independent and able to avoid conflicts of interest;
- Reports to or is a member of the institution’s senior leadership; and
- Has the institutional; authority to effectively coordinate the institution’s compliance efforts and responsibilities under Title IX.
Title IX Coordinator
Angela Catena, PhD (she/her)
Angela is an innovative professional with over 13 years of dedicated experience in the realm of gender equity violence prevention. She assumed the role of Title IX Coordinator at UNM in December 2018. Armed with a robust educational background, Angela holds a BA in Psychology, an MA in Community Mental Health, and a PhD in Counselor Education. Her doctoral journey culminated at the University of New Mexico, where she attained her PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision, with an emphasis in Health Education and Public Health.
Drawing from her wealth of experience, Angela has championed her cause with fervor. Her tenure as a doctoral student saw her lending her expertise to the Women’s Resource Center and the LoboRESPECT Advocacy Center. Here, she spearheaded the development of cutting-edge prevention education curriculum, masterminded awareness campaigns, and led training sessions. Her impact has reverberated across diverse spheres, from orientation leaders and Resident Advisors to athletes, Greek life members, and incoming students. Angela's prowess in crisis intervention, prevention education, curriculum design, and program assessment marks her as an invaluable asset in fostering inclusive environments and championing gender equality.
Angela's journey took her to the faculty-side of academia as she flourished as a Clinical Assistant Professor at Arizona State University within the Counseling and Counseling Psychology Department. There, she facilitated an array of pivotal courses including counseling LGBTQIA+ individuals, working with intimate partner violence, crisis intervention, trauma care, and group counseling. At the core of her tenure was the provision of clinical training and mentorship to aspiring counselors, solidifying her position as a beacon of guidance in the field.
Angela is humbled and excited to have the opportunity to advance UNM in its efforts to eliminate sex-based harassment and discrimination.
Associate Title IX Coordinator
Andria Sennett
The Associate Title IX Coordinator is a new role established in 2023 to expand UNM’s Title IX programming and prevention efforts. The Associate Title IX Coordinator portfolio has an emphasis on training and development and process improvement of the Title IX grievance procedures.
Deputy Title IX Coordinators
Deputy Title IX Coordinators are individuals designated by the Title IX Coordinator to assist with management and implementation of area-specific compliance strategies and programs. Deputy Title IX Coordinators are identified based on their knowledge of population-specific needs, trends, and issues related to sex or gender-based harassment or discrimination.
